Ghostkeeper 2 – The Ghost That Came Back

The last thing that writer/director Jim Makichuk ever imagined was the return of GHOSTKEEPER; his first feature film made in 1980.The supernatural thriller came and went in the early 1980s. But around 2005 Jim learned that some German horror fans found VHS copies of the movie and thus began a cult following. Soon British horror writers asked for interviews and in 2011 distributor Code Red discovered two 35mm prints in a New York storage unit.

This eventually led to a 30th Anniversary DVD in 2012. Jim rounded up actors Murray Ord and Riva Spier and 86-year old GEORGIE COLLINS, a legendary theater actor from Alberta, Canada. A commentary track was included along with an interview with Georgie Collins and cameraman John Holbrook. But it didn’t end there.

In 2013 GHOSTKEEPER fans and friends encouraged Jim to write a new screenplay, some suggested a remake and others a new story. Jim came up with a unique story that would use both the original cast from 1980 as well as a new younger cast in GHOSTKEEPER 2 (NEVER GO BACK). The original movie was based on the “Windigo”, a mythical Native Indian creature that haunted wilderness parts of Canada.

The present-day story is simple; the original cast of 1980 will play themselves 33 years later and have come back to the DEER LODGE HOTEL for a reunion. But as the story begins, things begin to happen that reflect the original 1980 story and when two of the original cast disappear it begins to reflect the past as flashbacks fill in the story. To add another element, a Native Indian trapper appears from a raging snowstorm and suggests that the Windigo does exist and that they are all trapped inside with nowhere to run or hide. Thus the new movie becomes both a remake and sequel. Jim, along with producer Joe Thornton will fund the feature on Kickstarter.com.

To mark this historic occasion, www.indiavideo.org has launched a year-long celebration which will take the viewers to the key moments in the momentous journey of Hindi Cinema. The project is supported by Culture Shoppe, an online cultural gift shop, and Mulamoottil Eye Hospital, a leading super specialty eye hospital.

The special centenary gallery on the website and its YouTube channel www.youtube.com/indiavideodotorghas already become a big hit among Bollywood fans spread across the world.

As part of the centenary fete, www.indiavideo.org is featuring 365 movies carefully chosen to represent the history of Bollywood. Clippings of the selected movies are presented along with a brief talk on the specialties and historical aspects of the film. The nearly two-minute movie will have the best moments in a film.

The movies were chosen by researcher and columnist Vijay Kumar Balakrishnan who has been exploring Bollywood for the past 40 years. He is also an avid collector of Bollywood posters, gramophone records, song books, vintage films etc. Eminent Kathak dancer and social activist Pali Chandra is the anchor.

“From Dadasaheb Phalke, V Shantaram, Himanshu Rai, Vijay Bhatt, Fateh Lal, Sohrab Modi, Damle, Bimal Roy, Mehboob Khan, Raj Kapoor to G P Sippy, Mahesh Bhatt, Shekhar Kapur, Mira Nair, Aamir Khan, Ram Gopal Varma and Karan Johar, the gallery will introduce personalities who influenced the industry from time to time,” says Vijay Kumar Balakrishnan. “ It has rare and exclusive visuals of old films like Raja Harishchandra, Ayodhya ka Raja, Pukar, Kapal Kundala, Izzat, Doctor, Maya Machindra and the like,” he adds.

The Bollywood centenary gallery of www.indiavideo.org is perhaps the first of its kind online project to preserve the history of a film genre. Visitors are offered free access to the gallery which is a useful resource for academicians and researchers.

RNG35 Inc. is pleased to present its newest version of the RNG35 35mm Adapter

Getting beautifully cinematic imagery from a digital camcorder is becoming more popular every day. Nearly every consumer grade and semi professional grade camcorder on the market have very small chip sensors. This puts a limitation on one very important factor in creating the “film” look with a digital camcorder: control of focus or the ability to achieve a shallow Depth of Field. RNG35 Inc. is pleased to present its newest version of the RNG35 35mm Adapter.

Pay attention the next time you go see a movie and you will notice how the camera focuses on a subject. Usually, the subject is in perfect focus while the rest of the scene is out of focus. This is how the director gets us to watch a specific part of the film. This is called a shallow Depth of Field. It is also a very filmic aspect of movies and something that the viewer identifies as a very artistic feel…whether they know what it is or not.

The RNG35 allows you to get this effect with a basic digital camcorder whether it’s an expensive High Definition camcorder or a lower end regular digital camcorder.

Look at some of your footage taken with a digital camcorder and you will notice how flat and in focus everything in the shot is. The RNG35 solves the most common problem that we face in wanting to make our digital footage look like film.

The December release of the new RNG35 has some nice extra touches without the added cost.

Let’s start from the front of the adapter to the back. First, the RNG35 comes standard with a Nikon mount. Nikon lenses are nice because over all these years, their mount has not changed. You can use any, old or new, SLR lens with the RNG35 Adapter.

There is also a new collimation feature. You can easily set the infinity focus to any position on the adapter. This will allow you free control of how close you can get to a subject or simply allow you to fine tune infinity focus.

Then there is the new large 16:9 ratio focusing screen. We made it larger so that the entire 35mm plane could be used.

At the back of the adapter, is a new easy on feature that will allow you to more easily attach the adapter to your camcorder and adjust the adapter to align the screen inside with your LCD.

This is a nice affordable 35mm Adapter for any indi film maker or for anyone that simply wants a nice cinematic look to their videos. Please see the website for demo videos and before an after samples.
